This time round we review the Nokia N8 mobile phone and its on board FM Transmitter. We put the phone through its paces as a mobile music device as we play music off the handset and broadcast it to the audio unit of a Proton Savvy. We find that having a phone that doubles as a FM Transmitter a really nifty thing, especially if your vehicle does not have a USB port to allow the easy carrying and playing of your favourite music. With the FM Transmitter, the Nokia N8 becomes your very own radio station which plays only the music you want and without the commercials.
While the Nokia N8 is really nifty that way, it isn’t the only mobile phone that has an FM Transmitter built-in. Have a look at our list of all the phones that has can do the same as the N8. Bear in mind that this is not a conclusive list and please do watch the video, leave a comment and let us know if you know of another mobile phone that similarly also has a FM Transmitter so we can add it to the list.

Additional Notes:
I just felt that I needed to comment on the Nokia N8 camera, which is nothing shy of impressive.
According to GSM Arena the Nokia N8 has what should be the largest Image Sensor at time of writing. (Smaller number is better.)
Here is a list of Image Sensor sizes of notably good Camera Phones.
I am also including here of a photo I shot at home with the Nokia N8. The conditions were a pitch black room at night, distance of camera from object approximately 8-10 feet.
Even without zooming in you can see the level of detail and if you were to enlarge it further, you’ll even be able to read the book titles. Remember, the room was pitch black with no light source besides the N8’s own Xenon flash.

The N8 FM transmitting in STEREO or MONO?? this would be the most important in term of FM transmitting technology.
No where does officially state if the broadcast is in mono or stereo hence it wouldn’t be fair to comment. But personally, I would think that it won’t make sense to go through the trouble of conversion and broadcasting in mono if the file being played is stereo. Seems like double work and a waste of processing power to me…
Wait, the pic was taken in a pitch black room and the lighting provided by the flash? Damn, that is pretty!
Hi Naoko, yes it’s very nice indeed!!
All the time good to see, this was obvious a superb post. In theory I would like to write like this too. You need time to creat that informative and as well as numerous effort to create a superb article.
Hi, I was scanning another thing about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective onto it is diametrically contradicted to what I read earlier. I am still pondering with the opposite points of view, but I’m leaning to a great extent toward yours. And irrespective, that’s what is so fantastic about modern-day democracy and the marketplace of ideas online.
